Easter festivities
Sunday, Mar. 31, 2002

Well, yesterday was spent at the house of some of my SCA friends' house. We had an Easter gathering for our local SCA group. We had hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill and had a great time just shooting the breeze for the evening. The highlight of the afternoon was the Easter egg hunt for the guys. The women had the guys go in the house and wait while we hid eggs all over the pretty large property. We were vicious. We got some great pictures of the guys looking for eggs, racing to them when we droped hints, and squabbling over who-found-it-first. Just picture half a dozen adult guys, 3 in their early 20s, 3 around 40ish - all fighting over plastic eggs. Hehehe.

Oh yeah, I might want to explain what the SCA is. "The Society for Creative Anachronism is a (SCA) is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating pre-17th-century European history." (from www.sca.org)

Basically, we get together and spend the weekends trying to re-create, as best as possible, some parts of medieval life. We try to wear clothes that match what would have been worn, a feast is held with foods that would have been eaten, people show what they have researched about the arts and sciences of the time to educate other members, fighters in both the chivalric and rapier fighting compete in tournaments... the list goes on and on. We even have a King and a Queen, barons and baronesses, knights, dukes, counts.... it's a fun organization to belong to and it has been educational. If you want to know more about the SCA, the website is very helpful, or I could help you out. Just ask : )
